Online Analytical Processing [OLAP]

A class of tools that can extract and present multidimensional data[2] from different points of view. Designed for managers looking to make sense of their information[1], OLAP structures data hierarchically — the way managers think of their enterprises. OLAP functions include trend analysis, drilling down to more complex levels of detail, summarization of data and data rotation for comparative viewing.

Defined Terms
1. information.

The by-product of having data in an HR System. Data is gathered and reviewed providing information for decision making.

2. data.

Numbers, characters, or images in a form which can be assessed by a human or (especially) input into a computer, stored and processed.
