Private Key

A confidential cryptographic[1] key that is known only to the owner and used for decrypting data[2] or signing digital transactions.

Defined Terms
1. cryptographic.

Relating to the use of cryptographic techniques, such as encryption and decryption, to secure data and transactions. Cryptographic hashes Unique digital representations of data generated using cryptographic algorithms, commonly used for data integrity verification and security.

2. data.

Numbers, characters, or images in a form which can be assessed by a human or (especially) input into a computer, stored and processed.
