Encryption

The process[4] of using an algorithm[3] to transform information[1] to make it unreadable for unauthorized users. The process of converting plaintext into ciphertext using cryptographic[2] algorithms to protect data[5] confidentiality and integrity.

Defined Terms
1. information.

The by-product of having data in an HR System. Data is gathered and reviewed providing information for decision making.

2. cryptographic.

Relating to the use of cryptographic techniques, such as encryption and decryption, to secure data and transactions. Cryptographic hashes Unique digital representations of data generated using cryptographic algorithms, commonly used for data integrity verification and security.

3. algorithm.

Step-by-step instructions or procedures followed by a computer to solve a specific problem or perform a particular task.

4. process.

The mechanism through which the data are transformed, manipulated and created into output such as a report, a decision etc. A series of activities that need to be carried out to accomplish some sort of organizational goal. A sequence of events or activities that are triggered by something happening and results in something being achieved.

5. data.

Numbers, characters, or images in a form which can be assessed by a human or (especially) input into a computer, stored and processed.
