Lifecycle Management

Covers the processes of managing a software application[2] from implementation[1] through testing[3], deployment, support, upgrading and ultimately retirement. Additionally, archiving of data[4] is also considered to be part of lifecycle management.

Defined Terms
1. implementation.

The structured process of integrating an application into workforce processes. It includes the installation, configuration and data population and testing of an information technology system. Putting in place a collection of components and objects to perform that function they were designed to do.

2. application.

A set of software programs designed to achieve a specific task.

3. testing.

The processes around making sure that changes to systems are implemented correctly. This includes running programs, entering data and viewing system results.

4. data.

Numbers, characters, or images in a form which can be assessed by a human or (especially) input into a computer, stored and processed.
