Project Management Office [PMO]

An organizational body or entity[2] assigned various responsibilities related to the centralized and coordinated management of those projects under its domain[3]. The responsibilities of a PMO can range from providing project management[1] support functions to actually being responsible for the direct management of a project[4].

Defined Terms
1. project management.

The application of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques to project activities to meet project requirements.

2. entity.

"Any singular, identifiable and separate object. The term is used in a number of programming languages/concepts, database management and systems design. In relation to a database, an entity is a single person, place, or thing about which data can be stored. In data modeling (a first step in the creation of a database), an entity is some unit of data that can be classified and have stated relationships to other entities."

3. domain.

Used in conjunction with enterprise architecture to describe a collection of objects belonging to a specific business sector, such as Finance, HR Management, etc.

4. project.

An interrelated set of tasks with a beginning and an end that is bounded by time, resources, costs and desired results.
