Machine Learning [ML]

An application[2] of artificial intelligence[1] (AI) that provides systems the ability to automatically learn and improve from experience without being explicitly programmed. The basic premise of machine learning is to build algorithms that can receive input data[3] and use statistical analysis to predict an output while updating outputs as new data becomes available. A branch of artificial intelligence that enables computers to learn and improve from experience without being explicitly programmed.

Defined Terms
1. artificial intelligence.

The simulation of human intelligence processes by machines, especially computer systems. These processes include learning (the acquisition of information and rules for using the information), reasoning (using rules to reach approximate or definite conclusions) and self-correction. The simulation of human intelligence in machines that enables them to perform tasks such as learning, reasoning, and problem-solving.

2. application.

A set of software programs designed to achieve a specific task.

3. data.

Numbers, characters, or images in a form which can be assessed by a human or (especially) input into a computer, stored and processed.
