Full-Time Equivalent

This is a way to measure worked time as a fraction of a full time worker. An FTE of 1.0 means that the person is equivalent to a full-time worker, while an FTE of 0.5 signals that the worker is only half-time.


Functional Decomposition

A technique that involves analyzing a working system and then breaking it down into separate and discrete objects.


Functionality

The collective term describing what a system does: That is, the different types of functions a component is expected to perform as part of a business operation, such as create, update, manipulate, report or delete data.


Functional Requirements Specification

The document that describes the functional features needed in a software product. The document usually results from a study of users requirements.


Gamification

In an employment or HR context, gamification refers to a process of making systems, processes or other employment related activities more enjoyable and motivating through game design elements.


Gantt Chart

A bar chart that is used to illustrate a project schedule. It provides a graphical representation of the duration of tasks against the progression of time in a project.


Gap Analysis

The difference between the current state and the desired future state. Gap analysis consists of listing the characteristics of the present situation ("what is"), listing the future state ("what should be"), and identifying the gaps that exist and need to be filled.


General Data Protection Regulation

European Union (EU) law that sets guidelines for the collection and processing of personal information of individuals within the EU. Under the terms of GDPR, organizations have to ensure that personal data is gathered legally and under strict conditions. It applies to any employer that processes and holds personal data for employees residing in the EU, even if the company is not based in Europe. It also applies to any third-party vendor that is contracted to process employee personal data. A European Union regulation that sets out rules and guidelines for the protection of personal data and privacy rights of individuals.


Generative Adversarial Network

A type of AI model that consists of two neural networks—a generator and a discriminator—that compete against each other to improve the quality and realism of generated content.


Generative AI

Artificial intelligence techniques that enable the creation of new content or data based on existing patterns and examples.
