Knowledge Management

The process of finding, selecting and organizing the 'intellectual capital' of a company; whether that is files in a database, or the information lodged in each employee’s brain; and then presenting that knowledge in a way that helps employees understand and act on that information.


Latency

The delay or time lag between the sending and receiving of data or information in a network or system.


Learning Management System

A software application that allows the creation delivery and management of learning and training resources and content.


Legacy System

A legacy system, in the context of computing, refers to outdated computer systems, programming languages or application software that is used instead of available upgraded versions. The term used to describe an old system that has been replaced by something more suitable to the current operation, but still holds data that is needed. The term usually refers to mainframe applications, although difficult to maintain, they may be too important to discard.


Lifecycle Management

Covers the processes of managing a software application from implementation through testing, deployment, support, upgrading and ultimately retirement. Additionally, archiving of data is also considered to be part of lifecycle management.


Live Date

The date the system has been fully tested and is put into production or implemented for actual use by all end users.


Load Balancing

A technique in computer networking to spread work between computers, network links or CPU’s in order to get optimal resource utilization from the network.


Local Area Network

A computer network that spans a relatively small area and connects workstations and personal computers. Most LANs are confined to a single building or a group of buildings. However, one LAN can be connected to other LANs over any distance via telephone lines and radio waves.


Localization

The process of customizing your application for a given culture and locale. Services offered by the software provider that cover the creation and maintenance of local legal requirements as well as the delivery of updates to the solution on a regular basis.


Logical Design

A phase in the system development lifecycle (SDLC) in which a new system is designed without regard to the technology in which it will be implemented.
